Third grade is a challenging experience for most students. They will encounter many changes from previous years. One of these changes will be homework. Each child will have homework several nights a week. Misuse of class time is usually the culprit. If your child never has homework, this is a reason to contact me unless they have a no homework coupon. There will be nights without homework. However, your student should be reading nightly and there are TWO spelling activities due every FRIDAY! All students are required to keep track of their homework assignments during the day. The best tool for this is the Student Planner. This allows your child to write down assignments daily and have them checked by both you and the teacher. These are checked sometimes by the teacher and must be initialed each evening by the parent. All assignments are due the day after they are assigned unless otherwise specified. If a student does not have their assignment the morning it is due, they will move their clip down. (They will not be able to call home.) They will have a second chance to complete the work and turn it in the next day. If the work is not completed and turn in the second day they will receive a ZERO. Too many zeroes will significantly lower a child's grade. It is imperative that work be turned in on time to ensure that your child is mastering the objectives set forth in our curriculum. After the fourth late or missing assignment a HOMEWORK DETETNION will be given. From there on out your child will stay in for recess and complete any missing homework. I believe that every child should get used to having a good study habit and responsibility. Students are responsible for taking home every resource book or notebook they need in order to complete their assignments. Homework is worth 10% of their grade. Students are encouraged and reminded of what they need to take home. If by any chance they forget, it is their responsibility to call another student and complete the homework assignment. There are NO EXCUSES for homework not done, unless there was an emergency; which I will need a note. Your child will have reading and spelling homework nightly; math homework will be scattered throughout the week. I do not assign homework on the weekends, unless they have a test to study for or any other projects, but your child will have homework on all other nights.
